I’m a stream ecologist with a focus on functional biodiversity and ecosystem processes. I mainly use detritus-based food webs of streams to study how these elements of ecosystems are interlinked and modified by anthropogenic change. I established a laboratory to study all aspects of the biodiversity, ecology and biogeography of aquatic hyphomycetes, a diverse but understudied group of freshwater saprobic fungi. I use knowledge gained from these studies in collaborative projects with international partners and stakeholders, for instance to develop functional bioindicators.

I am a freshwater ecologist particularly fond of fungi. I want to understand how global changes can determine microbial communities diversity and activity and how that impacts freshwater ecosystem functioning. My interests include the effects of temperature, nutrient enrichment, biodiversity changes, fungicides, multiple stressors... My work range from lab to field work, from small tubes to mesocosms and streams. I use microscopy- and molecular-based techniques to assess microbial diversity. I am actively working towards aquatic fungi conservation and monitoring as a member of Biodiversa+ projects FUNACTION and MoSTFun and Co-chair of IUCN SSC Aquatic Fungi Specialist Group.

I'm a PhD student at UZH with affiliations with Eawag and IM-SUPSI. My project aims to quantify and model aquatic fungi biodiversity in different habitats.
